The suspension of a Golden State Warrior player

Today, I will be writing about a basketball player who happens to be one of the famous players in the 1990’s and in the early 2000. He happens to be the player drafted of Golden State Warriors in 1992-1993 season. All we know today that the Golden State Warriors have won their championship just this year after 40 years of waiting. Even making the best start in NBA history, this season currently as I write this one with a blazing 20-0 record. The Warriors have built it’s reputation with their hot shooting duo starring Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson plus with the help of the NBA Final’s MVP Andre Iguodala. But before this guys achieved the mightiest goal in Basketball world, a player was creating himself a name in the Golden State Warriors franchise, his name Latrell Sprewell.

Sprewell, first played in November 6, 1992 for the warriors and it lasted for 6 season before being drafted to the New York Knicks in the 1998-1999 season of the NBA. Something happened in  that somehow turned heads on the NBA, it is when Mr. Sprewell choked and threatened to kill his coach PJ Carlesimo.  It was one of the harshest implemented suspension of an NBA player.  Because of the event that happened, On  December 4th 1997, exactly 18 years ago today, the NBA decided to suspend Mr. Sprewell  for one year. By 1998, Sprewell got in into a new team, the New York Knicks and played there for over 5 season before going again to other team, he played well and got a reputation of being a shooter also. And on his final 2 seasons, he played for the Minnesota Timberwolves together with my favorite player that time, Kevin Garnett.

That event was implemented due to the harsh actions of Mr. Sprewell, obviously. But sometimes we cannot avoid to look at his side also, maybe he has deeper reasons, on why he did it. But the NBA rules must be followed, a professional sport which is being watched by millions of people must do something that would make people realize that such violent actions would not be tolerated in any way.

The arrest and conviction of Adolf Hitler

As we all know, Adolf Hitler is the most power man in Europe in the 1940’s through the annexation from country or even the world, he has the great control of vast military command. And of course all the things he needed to be done are all in hands. Before he came to power, he became a soldier fighting in the great World War 1. To this war he is wounded, this making home a lot braver in the next coming years upon rising to power leading the Nazi Germany towards its quest in conquering nations along with it’s Axis partner’s Italy and Japan. This group of fierce force was the force to be reckoned with during that time and almost making their campaigns all be successful if not because of the ever strong Allied forces in the 1940’s.

November 8, 1923 Adolph Hitler led his Nazi followers in an abortive attempt seize power in Munich in what became known as the "Beer Hall Putsch". Although the plan failed, and Hitler imprisoned, the Nazi leader gained for his rise to the dictatorship of Germany. There were riots going on the streets between different political parties. These parties are consisting of Communist, Nazi’s and Socialist groups. It all started during a meeting or gathering with leaders of the Bavarian government were having a rally with its 3000spectators. Suddenly Hitler fired into the air, stunning the leaders and announced that the area was surrounded by his 600 storm troopers. By dawn, the coup ended up in a sense of misdirection and confusion, Hitler later that day manage to march towards the streets of Munich. They manage to cross the city center, but eventually stopped by police forces, some of his followers died because of that marched and Hitler managed to escaped but arrested in November 12, 1923, 92 years ago today.

Upon the arrest, Hitler was convicted with treason, with 5 years of confinement, but this conviction only lasted for 8 months. After that conviction, Hitler come to think that to take into power he must not do it to armed conflicts but to it’s manipulation of the existing political system of their country. Even though Hitler rise to power in World War 2, he also experience of being confined like what he did to the opposing captured soldiers during that time. It just says that the one that happened in your life, there is a tendency that you would implement all over again as long as you live.

Nazis murder 16,000 Jews in Pinsk, Soviet Union

This day was only one of the darkest day in history, especially to the Jewish people. The Nazi’s as we know even from before, started there campaigned in conquering much of Europe, and one of there main focus is to eliminate the existence of the Jews, more likely in the 1940’s.The Nazi’s came to rise first in Poland in late of 1939 and obviously was a successful step. World war 2 came, and all of the world is nervous of what might be the result of the war, many of the people migrated from one place to other in order for them to secure themselves from the great danger. And one of the most affected race is that of the Jews, they were facing the greatest test of there life, through the extermination by the Nazis.

This day in October 29, 1942, exactly 73 years ago from today, was seemingly one of the largest extermination campaigns of the Nazi’s to the Jewish people in Pinsk, in the former Soviet Union. It was a thousand act of murders that occurred in the place. Approximately 16,000 of Jews was murdered through the same method as we know that happened in the Auschwitz concentration camp. It was really murderous that according to some witnesses by some sources also, they could smell the dead as far as in the next city due to the number of murders done.

Those acts right now are really much condemned even in Germany, they prohibit people as much as possible to talk about it, due to its horrific past that occurred during the World War 2. However, the Nazi officers have payed for it also, years later. That seems to be a sort of justice for all the human killings and war crimes they have committed in those era.

The day MacArthur came back to the Phillipines

In 1944 on this day, October 20 2015, marked the return of General Douglas MacArthur in Philippines, particularly in Leyte. It would be marked as the bloodiest war in the Pacific and also marking an end to the Japanese forces invasion. During the war, the Japanese making an action towards it launching operation Sho-go an attempt to take away the 3rd U.S fleet north towards the fighting. The American and Japanese fleet have faced together in October 23 days after the landing in Leyte Gulf.

In Leyte Island, the Americans take on the Japanese garrisons. It took them almost 70 days before completing the annihilation of the Japanese troops, all in all the Japanese lost about 80,000 troops compared to Americans who only lost about 3,500 troops. In the Leyte Gulf a lot of destruction has cost both sides, after 3 days of sea battle, the Americans lost only 3 battle ships compared to a lot more for the Japanese which has 36 battleships destroyed. The battle ended at about 5,000 Kamikaze pilots died and managed to take down 34 ships.

Until the end the Japanese troops hold its resistance til the end of the battle, they have not given up an easy war. They give all there power to fire up the Americans, but in the end, they really cannot with stood the mighty power of the Americans , they were just really outnumbered, out smarted to the extent that the war was ended because of that. Its one of the greatest highlights of every Filipino until now, and it would remain to be the liberation day of the entire country and regained our own strength as one nation on this day exactly 71 years ago.

Pompei the Great’s death

We know already about the great that was Rome in Italy, I think these people is more likely to start the civilization standards ever in history. They implemented such rules that’s really strict that only the state and the people in it should follow. One we knew of was Julius Ceasar, who was I think the most famous leader in ancient Roman Empire. But the sad thing is he was killed by his fellow people inside the empire and that ended his life and his rule forever. Today I would like to tell you an event where in another Roman leader who has somewhat have the same fate as of Julius Caesar.

Pompey the great or Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus was a roman military and political leader in his time, he has achieved success so much in his life, even if he is still young he became very successful in all of his passions in life. He enabled to advance directly to his first consulship without meeting the normal requirements for office. Not only that later on in his leadership he gained the consulship not only once but thrice. Adding to his perspective as a leader, he also celebrated three triumphs or victories all in all against the pirates. It was in Mid- 60 BC when the first triumvirate was formed, together with Marcus Licinius  Crassus and Gauis Julius Caesar. It is also known as a unofficial military- political alliance known at that era.

And on September 28, 48 BC when Pompey was visiting Egypt, the unexpected thing happened. After landing in Egypt, he was assassinated through the order of King Ptolomey X111. It was a day before suppose to be his birthday September 29. It was marked as one of the history’s remarkable assassinations that was known through the orders of a king.

The last fight of Rocky Marciano

To this day, we really love boxing, especially us Filipino’s who is getting more into it because of our boxing hero Manny Pacquiao, even though he didn’t get the much perfect record as of Marciano, we all like and love him due to the things he gave the country a some kind of reputation. It would serve as an inspiration to all of us Filipino’s knowing that Pacquaio has bloomed from rags to riches. Before Pacquaio was even born, boxing was at its peak, especially in the United States, wherein a heavyweight boxer was making its name, and to add more perspective into it, he was having a perfect record of 49-0 before retiring into boxing. Making him unique, keeping him undefeated until the day he quits.  Today I would like to share to you the last fight of Marciano that makes him unblemished perfect record fighter, that no one would ever achieved or even be doubted by what he achieved in his glory days.

It was September 21, 1955, and the place was held in Yankee Yankee Stadium in New York. It happened to this day due to a postponement of the fight because of a Hurricane. The stadium’s attendance was 61,574. Theatre Network Television drew an estimated $1,125,000 from some 320,000 fans in 129 locations in 92 cities. So it was being viewed by a lot of people, making it one of the most exciting fights in boxing history. The deal between promoters letting Rocky Marciano received $482,374 and Moore got $241,187. During the fight, Marciano was dropped by Moore on the 2nd round, but Rocky bounce back and dropped Moore thrice. And by the 9th round the fight was finished after Rocky knocked out Moore with 1:19 of the said round of 15th.

Moore attempted to become the first Light Heavyweight champion to win a World Heavyweight Championship. But that dream was stopped due to this loss; Moore's record was reported to be 120-19-5, with 82 Kos. While Rocky Marciano retired with 49-0 with astonishing 43 K.O’s, it was Marciano’s 6th title defense for the World Heavyweight Championship.

The remarkable image of a person to a nation

I’m talking about an image that marked the powerful nation, from it’s unexpected happenings in United States history, the image is of Samuel Wilson a meat packer from Troy, New York, that turns out be later called as Uncle Sam. It all started in 1813, in the midst of the War of 1812. This period, Wilson is the one who stamped the barrels of beef with U.S for the United States. Because of this the soldiers begin to grub it as Uncle Sam’s. A local newspaper picked up the story and later begins to spread and then became the nickname for the U.S federal government.

And about 1860’s one cartoonist named Thomas Nast began popularizing the Uncle Sam image. He is the one who improves the image by putting white beard and stars and stripes suit which most of us know till this day. He is also the one who popularized the image of modern Santa Claus, the imageof both Democratic and Republican party that time. This guy was so famous, because of his creative mind including in his editorial cartoon, which resulted into the downfall of William Tweed.

Another version has made its way through the image of Uncle Sam is that of James Montgomery Flagg. In his version, he vision Uncle Sam as wearing a tall top hat with blue jacket pointing at the viewer. This image has been used in Leslie’s Weekly in July 1916 with the title “What are you doing for preparedness?” this is widely used in World War 1 first used as a recruiting poster. In 1961, U. S government recognized Uncle Sam as a progenitor of America’s national symbol. To this day the town of Troy in New York calls itself as the “Home of Uncle Sam”.

After 73 years The Titanic was finally found

Since 1997 when the movie Titanic starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet was released and watched by public around the world. We could not resist much upon watching the movie all over again because of it’s love story between Jack and Rose on board the ship. But one main thing that keeps the movie memorable is that the tragic sinking of one’s thought to be an unsinkable ship. Thousands of lives has been changed upon its sinking and to this day it touch most of us by it’s stories surrounding Titanic. Its been 73 years when the Titanic was found again, this time at the bottom of the ocean. We would recall what happened when the legendary ship was found again after almost 100 years after.

In the North of Atlantic Ocean, on September 1, 1985, the RMS Titanic has been found it was approximately found about 400 miles east of Newfoundland through the efforts of the U.S- French expedition. It was the well known American Robert Ballard who used unmanned submersible developed by U.S Navy to search for the said liner. The Argo traveled just above the ocean floor, sending photographs up to the research vessel Knorr. In the early morning of September 1, Argo was investigating debris on the ocean floor when it suddenly passed over one of the Titanic‘s massive boilers, lying at a depth of about 13,000 feet. Successfully the wreck has been explored and it was made by and unmanned and manned submersibles. Because of this all the questions would somehow be answered by all the people searching for the reason why did the ship and the stories of all people on board namely the Crew members of the ship and it’s passengers.

The burning of Washington and its Capture

Today in history, I will talk about the memorable day which happens in the War of 1812. We knew about the British troop’s campaign against this era for America. But one of the most memorable moments was that of burning of the Whitehouse, the home of the American Presidents. The British militiamen burned the White House this day in history, through the efforts of General Robert Ross. It all started when the American troops was defeated in the Battle of Bladensburg in Maryland and continued their march towards Washington D.C. . . Most of the congressmen that time fled from the area, including President James Madison together with his wife, to whom early in the morning that day, have seen action fighting against the British in the Battle of Bladensburg.

When the British troops arrived, they have dined that night in the White House. And when they realized that they have the hold of the place already, they set the White House in flames, including the area’s private homes, federal buildings, the Congress and the House of Representatives. To most historians, it is in revenge for the American troops burning of Canadian government buildings earlier in the war. The entire city was busted with flames and the structures are almost gone with its ashes. It’s like the city was totally burned down due to the uncontested force for the British
militiamen.

Two days later on August 26, General Ross ordered a withdrawal of their troops in Washington. The next day, President Madison came back from the ravaged and the burned Washington, promising to restore the beauty of the city again. With the help of the original architect of the White House, named James Hoban, help reconstruct the executive mansion and was completed around 1817. The White House was then considered as the home of the most powerful leader in the world centuries after the incident.

The Roanoke Colony ( The vanished colony)

The mystery has always been a while ever since this world of ours has been created. There are lots of questions still needs some answers, which we never get in over a long period of time. For this time, I am going to write about one of the most mysterious disappearances in history, that even experts, don’t have enough clues as to explain the vanishing of this people. Even though its like centuries ago have past, if we readers are fun of reading mysterious stories, this is one of the best examples to that.

All the story began in the year 1585 when Sir Walter Raleigh founded the Roanoke Island colony. The first batch of colonist did not do well, with scarcity of food supplies and also some Indian attacks. And by 1586, a year later, they returned back to England. In 1587, another batch has been sent, captained by John White by a group of 100 colonist. And then White returned to England to get more supplies for the colonist. What also delay the come back of White was the war between Spain was going on, making him arrive in the colony in 1590, which he saw no one there.

White has no clues aside from the word CROATOAN carved in a tree, which refers to an island miles away, which later turns out to be still no clue there. In 1998, a study was conducted and the result was that, there is a terrible drought that happened during the disappearance period, which for some triggered the colonist to flew from the area. Another theory has been viewed that the colonist have been with a tribe named Croatoans. Among those who vanished is Ellinor Dare, White’s daughter, Virginia Dare, White’s granddaughter and the first English child born in America.

The birth of the NBA

On this day in 1949, the National Basketball Association was born. This association was the role model of the basketball world, before we could see the different generation of stars of today. NBA serves as a role model in the sport of basketball. In our country here in the Philippines, even the little kids know much about NBA even to the simplest kind of people, they can name an NBA player, so let's just say that NBA has marked the minds of all people but also in all of our hearts.

The history starts between the rival of  Basketball Association of America (BAA) and National Basketball League (NBL) have dealt with a merge. The BAA established itself in much known larger cities which like Fort Wayne, in Indiana, Sheboygan and Akron in Ohio. The NBL By the 1948-49 season, the BAA had begun to attract some of the country’s best players, and four NBL franchises–Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Rochester–moved to the BAA, bringing their star players.

Finally the 2 associations merged in the city of New York to finalized everything. A person who was elected as the head of the new formed league named Maurice Podoloff, who also served as the BAA. It came to a time when NBA from the start was formed with 17 teams, and then around 1954, some teams dwindled, then only 8 teams remained. Because of it, the NBA has changed its rules which gave birth to the 24 second shot clock for every team playing in the court. The association from then on grew from 1960’s to present with 30 franchises already which is praised by people around the world.

The death of Adam Walsh

Today I’ll talk about one of the most famous cases of child abduction and murder in the history of the United States. This case struck the American heart, not only that he was young, but the child’s death was just simply unimaginable for parents to bear it. The story starts on a afternoon in July 27, 1981. A boy was suspected to be kidnapped by an unknown assailant in a mall in Florida.

The boy is known as Adam Walsh, age 6, the son of John Walsh, later to be come one of the leading victims crime activist. Later on, john became the host of America’s Most Wanted.  It all started when his mother allowed him to play video games together withthe group of boys, while she need to have a bathroom break, just 10 minutes after, the boy is gone and nowhere to be found. A massive man hunt was conducted in every area of the mall, searching for AdamWalsh’s body, but they were no results at all. Surprisingly, on August 10, 1981, the boy’s head was discovered in a drainage without it’s body. It was only after 2 years after they had an answer.

By 1983, a man named Ottis Toole, confessed of the murder. He also implicated one serial murderer named Henry Lee Lucas. Several months later, he led the police to the place where he buried the boy, but it has gone into nothing. He repeatedly took back his story afterit. He died of liver cirrhosis in 1996. Years after it, Jeffrey Dahmer, another known serial killer who is at Florida at that time of the killings, was also considered as one of the suspects.

Because of this case, John Walsh, the father of Adam, later became a founder of National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He then became the host of America’s most Wanted which is the instrument in catching most of the fugitives in America. On July 27, 2006, 25 years after Adam went missing, President George W. Bruce Lee died at age 32 on this day

Today, I would like to take you back in the life and achievement of one of the most known and beloved icons in history of this world. In 1960’s this man has created his name towards movies. Especially to the martial arts field, this man has made a blue print or somewhat making the field more colorful and interesting. Probably, all of that generation  has known him well, regarding his movies and also the details of his life as an artist. But also most of us knows, the theories that surrounds its death causes and the question who did it and why.

I’m talking about Jun Fan, popularly known as Bruce Lee. He was born in San Francisco, California on November 27, 1940, to a Chinese opera star who is his father. A yearlater his family moved back in Hong Kong , there he started his career studying dancing and trained in the Win Chun style of gung fu popularly known as kung fu. He then appeared in about 20 films as a child actor. Few years after, he returned to America and meets his wife there named Linda Emery, they married in 1964 and by 1965, there first children was born naming it Brandon Lee. In 1966, Lee appeared in a television program named “Green Hornet” as a sidekick of the Hornet named Kato. From then on he has private clients and also joined karate tournaments around the United States.

In 1970’s, Lee went back to Hong Kong and successfully established himself as a star. The movies like “The Big Boss” and also “The Way of the Dragon” as a director, a writer and also starred in the said movie. A film was released in Hollywood called “Enter the Dragon” around August of 1973. This movie became a box office hit. Earning Lee as an icon in America that time, which the movie grossed about 200 million dollars. This was really known and almost watched by most of the Americans.

On July 20, 1973, Lee died one month earlier before the movie was released in Hollywood. His cause of death was ruled out as brain edema caused by a reaction to a prescription painkiller.  Lots of speculation came out like Lee was murdered by Chinese gangsters and a even a curse came out as a cause of his death. A curse controversy came out only when his son Brandon Lee died also at a young age of 28.  Brandon died of an accidental shooting on a set of the movie “The Crow” in 1991.  Both of the Lee’s were buried in a cemetery in Seattle Washington.

Yankees owner's death

George Steinbrenner’s death 5 years ago.
Not all of the filipino’s love watching baseball, maybe because the nation is widely more on the basketball, and it is really that obvious. Probably we Filipino’s knows baseball more specifically on the team monikers and its design which is widely used in clothing and baseball caps. One team that is really that known in baseball ever since, is the team that somehow shape the baseball world, it’s the New York Yankees, which I also featured in my previous blog postings. And this time I’m going to write more on its leadership and also ownership’s history. This particular person is not known worldwide, but is really that remarkable especially in New York, USA.

His name is George Michael Steinbrenner III the long time owner of the Yankees since 1973. George was born on July 4, 1930 in the state of Ohio. He graduated with the Masters Degree in Physical Education, which really meant that he is really into sports. Since that time of his ownership, the team had 7 World series and 11 American league pennants. In 1960’s he started he became an owner of a short-lived basketball team which is the Cleveland Pipers. He also invested on horse racing, broad way shows and other business ventures.
He had bought the Yankees in 1973 for only about 10 million dollars, which is far away huge than it cost until his death that cost around 1.6 billion dollars. He is known to be dictating the players a lot, involving the haircut measurements and other things which is really that personal. Steinbrenner himself was suspended from the sport twice–first, in 1974, after pleading guilty to making illegal corporate contributions to President Richard Nixon’s re-election campaign, and a second time, in 1990, for paying a small-time gambler to dig up damaging information about Yankee outfielder Dave Winfield, with whom Steinbrenner was feuding. Steinbrenner and the Yankees also raked in millions from lucrative licensing and marketing deals.
In 2009, the Yankees won their 27th World series which considered by some as the most memorable gift that they could offer to their owner before its death. His sons Hal and Hank is the one who manages the team right now. George’s health declined and until such time that he died of a heart attack on July 13, 2010, leaving a legacy along with it’s players.

U.S congress sanctions China

China, in the early part of June of 1989, Chinese troops and police made some actions towards a group of protesters, they smashed and making a sick response towards these people, who wants to voice out about more freedom into their own home land. This even took place in the well-known landmark in Beijing, which is the Tiananmen Square.President George Bush immediately ordered sanctions against the Chinese government, including a ban on arms shipments, the cessation of high-level talks with Chinese officials, and a suspension of talks about nuclear cooperation. Bush hoped that these sanctions would be enough to indicate the American government’s displeasure and anger over the events in Tiananmen Square, but many members of Congress felt that the president had not gone far enough in punishing China for its egregious human rights violations.

The House of Representation objected most of it and passed a new package of sanctions on this day in June 29, 1989.  It is more clearly viewed that in this new package China would only be sanctioned if only there were assurances that China was making progress in the area of human rights. It is friendlier and is more into the trade relations between the China and the United States. It would took for almost a year before some of the arrested protesters were being released from the prisons. China remained undiminished and somewhat no feelings at all by what their fellow people did to their own people. Most of those sanctions was only put aside and not being raised into discussion and talks about it and what so ever.

To this day, China is again making some violations not to its people, this time, to other territories specifically the West Philippines Sea, treating it as a part of their territory already. This is really clear that they don’t have any evidence stating that its part of China. Most of the people here in our country, hoping that they would not continue making progress in the area and hoping that these matter would later be resolved for the better future of everyone.

Marriage, a part of a person’s life where in you commit to be one with a chosen partner. This day is remembered not only by Americans, but by some who knows about dates and all other details of the biography of the U.S presidents.

On this day in 1810, at age 26, Zachary Taylor the 12 president of the United States married his wife named Margaret Smith aged 31. Smith met Taylor in 1809 when Taylor was an Army officer. A couple of years later, they have produced 6 children. And some of their children made their own names, one was their son Richard who later in his life became a general in the Confederate Army. And their daughter married a well known man in the name of President Jefferson Davis the future confederate president. According to some historians, during the presidency of Taylor, they noted that his wife was not happy, that she let her daughter Mary do the White House duties instead of her.
A century and 30 years later the same day, another President married the other half of his life. He is Richard Milhous Nixon the 37th president of the United States.  The name of the woman was Patricia Ryan, which is known to some as a very supportive wife all the way into the entire presidential term of Nixon. They had 2 daughters namely Julie and other one named after her mother, Patricia.  During Nixon’s political career, he was squashed by lots of interventions, especially the Watergate scandal. His re-election committee was implicated into criminal activities Democratic Party candidates and other organizers. Because of this scandal, this leads the Congress to have some proceedings in it. His family supported him until his resignation in 1974, which Nixon decided to leave voluntarily.
